How to Vote

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Here’s everything you need in one place.

You have several options for casting your vote:

Vote early (open now through Monday, November 2)

Any Minnesota voter can vote early. Go to your county elections office, get your ballot, and vote on the spot. Once you’ve voted early, you can’t vote again on Election Day, so you’re done.

Vote by mail

Request an absentee ballot at mnvotes.gov/absentee. Your ballot has to arrive by Election Day, so mail it back right away. If you’d rather drop it off, bring it to your county elections office, and call ahead to confirm the Election Day cutoff, since it’s earlier than when the polls close. You’ll need a witness to sign, so follow the instructions that come with your ballot. You can track your ballot at mnvotes.gov.

Vote on Election Day

Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you’re in line by 8:00, you can vote. Find your polling place at mnvotes.gov/pollfinder. It may not be where you’d vote early.

Not registered yet?

You can still register. Do it when you vote early, or at your polling place on Election Day. If you’re already registered at your current address, you don’t need to bring ID. If you’re registering or have moved, bring proof of residence. Details are at mnvotes.gov.

A few other things

  • See your ballot first. You can look up your sample ballot, including every race and local question, at mnvotes.gov.

  • Time off work. Minnesota law gives you the right to take time off to vote.
